The Must-Read Book Club

Kelsey Fox Bennett: This was an unexpected gift from a coworker and in about 50 pages I was completely in love.

YCNYC: Favorite quote?

KF-B: “Wherever you have friends that’s your country, and wherever you receive love, that’s your home… Whoever gives you love, that’s your parent.”

YCNYC: What one person would you recommend this book to?

KF-B: To the person wondering how to live a joyful life, stand in your power and defend what you cherish most even when you've experienced great loss, trauma or hopelessness. To anyone who wants love to prevail and is looking for tangible tools to help that happen.

YCNC: What moment or part resonates with you the most?

KF-B: The Dalai Lama shared a story about having extraordinary pain one day in his Gall Bladder and instead of focusing on his own pain, he shifted his focus to a man he passed on the street, poor and dying. In doing this his own pain lessened. It makes me think of the days that I have been uncomfortable or on the verge or recovery of sickness and when I go out to work with my clients I’m sluggish and grumpy and then by the time I return I feel totally fine, happy in fact. No physical pain. Nothing. Helping others leads to true joy. Wise selfishness as the Dalai Lama would say.
